Diabetes and Heart Problems

People with Diabetes Can Play a Big Role in Increasing Their Risk of Heart Disease and Stroke.
Diabetics and heart problems go hand in hand. When you make a visit to your doctor regarding your diabetic problems it would be a wise idea to have him do a full check up of your body condition including your heart. More two third of the citizen of the United States do not realize that they are an increased risk of an heart attack or stroke due to diabetics. It is only after the first stroke or heart attack that they realize the importance of heart related problems due to diabetics. For some it may be too late to realize. The body count states that people with diabetics are twice as more at a risk of heart attacks than that of patients without diabetics.

A diabetic patient should take charge of his / her health and work toward maintaining blood glucose levels within the recommended specified limits. There are also certain cardio vascular risks that are associated to diabetics that a diabetic patient should educate himself about.

There is a simple understanding of the problem of diabetics and cardiovascular disease associated to diabetics. It is called the ABC’s of diabetics. The “A” stands for the A1C test. The A1C test is a test that determines an average of the blood glucose for the last three to four months. One may feel that it in un-necessary as “I am doing a blood glucose test daily on my home monitor and recording the readings.; Well, if the readings that you have taken are correct and done exactly then the average that you find there will almost match with the readings that you will get on a single A1C test. You can also take it the other way around, what is the necessity for my home test if I can get an average once in every three to four months. Diabetes is a disease that needs to be monitored on a daily basis. If on a single day your blood glucose level shoots up then you will not be able to approach the doctor and there is a chance that you will suffer from an attack on that very day.

The “B” of the ABC test stands for the blood pressure. All people will be appreciating the importance of blood pressure when it relates to the heart.

The “C” stands for Cholesterol. Cholesterol is an important factor that affects the heart. This builds up plaque in blood vessels that leads to the heart. Any dislodging of this plaque leads to a stroke and this can at times permanently impair the brain. The cholesterol that needs to be checked is the HDL, LDL and the triglycerides. All of them should be within the specified limits
