Type II or Non-Insulin Dependent Diabetes Mellitus (NIDDM)
Non insulin dependant type of diabetes mellitus is a condition of the human body whereby the body does not respond to the insulin produced by it. The condition is more often than not noticed in people over the age of thirty years. This is otherwise also known as diabetics that set in with maturity. It affects the people who have an inactive life style, a life style that is more dependants on alcohol, and the television. Couch potatoes have been afflicted by this problem. It is quite alarming to state that most Americans are coming up with this problem including the children. This is because of the obesity levels. About ninety percent of the Americans who are suffering from diabetes are suffering from type II diabetes. Fifteen million Americans suffer from type II diabetes. Compared to the number of Americans who are suffering from type I diabetes it is an alarming number.

A person arrives at type II diabetes if he stops responding to the insulin that he / she is producing in the body. It may also be something like the body is not producing enough insulin to meet the requirements of the body. The reason being the insulin that is being produced does not reach the sugars. It is being blocked by the fat in the body.

Risk factors for developing type 2 Diabetes
It has been classified that the people who are likely to suffer from type II diabetes are the ones who are above the age of forty. Another factor that is likely to develop type II diabetes in a person is his / her obesity. It is found that obese people are more likely to develop diabetes than people who are within the age / weight ratio. In is found that women who have given birth to obese babies (babies weighing more than four Kilograms) are more at a risk of developing type II diabetes. If a patient has been earlier diagnosed with impaired glucose intolerance, then he / she are likely to develop type II diabetes.

What are the most common symptoms of Diabetes type II?
The symptoms that children show are different from that of what the adult’s experience. Adults may experience thirst quite often and at the same time they may also urinate quite often. Other problems being they are easily fatigable and they may experience dizzy spells. Loss of vision or blurred vision is one main indicator for diabetes.


Diabetes and Heart Disease
Diabetes causes a number of complications to the heart. The problems that it is associated to are stroke, hardening of the arteries and diseases of the peripheral vascular system.
